As has been the standard of Chattahoochee Valley Baseball since Coach Adam Thomas took over, academics will be a priority in the Pirate program. The fall of 2017 was no different, as the Pirates of the Chattahoochee posted a program record for NJCAA eligibility determining Fall term, by earning a robust 3.40 TEAM GPA.
For Spring Sports, the fall semester is the critical semester in determining the each players hours, quality point, grade point average, and ultimately their eligibility, which is why the timing and importance of the fall semester GPA is significant. With everyone in the baseball program included, every class and every grade was factored in to compute this great achievement.
The Pirate baseball team has posted a team GPA of 3.10 or higher every fall term since the fall of 2001, which is a remarkable seventeen year run of academic success. Since 2007, the Pirates have been named an NJCAA All Academic Team for 7 of those 11 years (2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016) while 27 Pirate players have earned NJCAA All Academic Team status.
Of the 40 players in the program at the end of the term, the Pirates had:
- 5 players earn a 4.00 GPA
- 14 players earn between a 3.50 – 3.99 GPA
- 14 players earn between a 3.00 – 3.49 GPA
- 4 players earn between a 2.75 – 3.00 GPA
So, as a whole, 33 of the 40 players in the program made a 3.00 GPA or higher, while 37 of the 40 posted a 2.75 GPA or better this fall semester.
Furthermore, the OVERALL TEAM GPA of the Pirate squad was an outstanding 3.30, which includes every grade earned from every player during their tenure as a member of the Pirate baseball program.
And finally, not only did the baseball program excel in the classroom, but the entire athletic department COMBINED, meaning every grade of ever class of every single student-athlete that is a member of a CVCC athletic team, earned a cumulative program wide GPA of 3.05.
What a fantastic start to an already exciting and promising 2018 season. “When you have good players who are good people, you have the opportunity to achieve SIGNIFICANCE!”
