Pirate Catch Up: Offense Explodes in 18 Run Effort in Win Over Andrew College

After a rejuvenating win in Game 4 over Wallace-Selma, the Pirates went on the road to face Andrew College in a midweek non-conference game.

It was all offense all the time for the Pirates, as they jumped on the board right off the bat in the first with a 3 run inning, keyed by a 2 run single by AJ Willoughby and an run scoring single by Jaylen Smith.

Starter Stewart Tyler tossed a 1-2-3 1st and gave way to the offense as they plated 2 more runs on a Jon Jon Foster 2 run double.  Unfortunately, the Tigers came right back and tied the score with a 5 run inning.  However, the Pirate offense did not blink and responded with a 7 run 3rd inning.

John Devine began the scoring with an RBI single, while Isaac Phillips delivered a sac fly.  A 3 run double by Foster and a 2 run homer by Willoughby gave the Pirates a 12-5 lead that Tyler made stick through his 3 innings of work.

The offense kept scoring adding 5 more in the 4th that was highlighted by Brandon Hill’s grand slam.  Up 17-5, the Pirates were unable to put the Tigers away, as Andrew plated 4 runs of their own in the 4th and another in the 6th to cut the lead to 17-10.

The offense took a few innings off, but added one more run in the 9th, when AJ Willoughby singled and scored on an error to extend the lead to 18-10.

The Tigers would not go quietly, as they threatened with 4 hits and 2 runs in the 9th before Hayden Siniard induced a 6-4-3 double play to secure the 18-12 win for Chattahoochee Valley.
