For the second weekend in a row, Chattahoochee Valley continued to roll in conference play, as they swept Bishop State in their four game set, with 2 blowouts and 2 nail biters.
Game 1 was another Chase Burks gem along with an early offensive explosion. In a 5 inning, mercy rule shortened game, Burks went the distance, tossing a 2 hitter and striking out 4 Wildcats.
The Pirates put things away early, by posting a 7 run 2nd inning, led by RBI basehits from Jaylen Smith, Jayson Cook, Will Campbell and Carson Hughes.
With the score 7-0, the Pirates finished things off in the bottom of the 5th, as Cookie added a 2 run single and Brandon Hill drove in the walk off run with a sacrifice fly for the 10-0 win.
Game 2 was much of the same with Chase Adkins taking the mound for CVCC. Adkins took a perfect game into the 5th with 2 outs, before a tweener ball fell for an infield hit, which was the only baserunner allowed in the game. Adkins added 3 strikeouts to his total.
Again, the Pirates jumped on the board early and often, scoring 1 in the 2nd on an AJ Willoughby solo homer and 3 in the 3rd with Brandon Hill’s 3 run shot.
Up 4-0, Chatt Valley added 5 more in the 4th, as Carson Hughes contributed an RBI double and Willoughby drove in 2 more with a single.
Jacob Ozley finished things off on the pitching end of things, tossing a perfect 6th and 7th for the Pirates to complete the 9-0 win.
On Saturday, the Pirates traveled to Mobile for the double header and Game 3 was tough extra inning affair. Jordan Lee pitched a gem of a game, going 6 strong, allowing only 2 runs and striking out 4.
After falling behind 1-0 early, the Pirates took a momentary lead in the 3rd, keyed by Will Campbell’s RBI double. However, Bishop tied the game in the bottom half at 2 apiece.
Chatt Valley took control in the 5th and 6th on a Nolan Greckel RBI single and an RBI groundout by MJ Rookard to go ahead 4-2 heading into the 7th. Unfortunately, a great effort and sure win for Lee was spoiled, as the Wildcats scratched for 2 to send the game into extras.
In a wild 9th, CVCC had 7 consecutive bunt singles to score 5 runs to put the game on ice in a 9-5 win.
Game 4, was all Haner, all the time as he pitched a gem of a game in a dark shortened 3-0 win. Allowing only 2 hits, Johnny Juco punched out 6 batters in the 5 inning effort.
Offensively, it was get ahead early and beat the nightfall. And the offense did just that scoring single runs in the first 3 innings. Campbell’s sac fly in the 1st put the Pirates ahead for good, while JT Thomas RBI groundout in the 2nd and Hill’s RBI groundout in the 3rd to give Haner all the support he would need in the 3-0 win.
