Late Inning Rally Lifts Pirates Over Golden Knights

It wasn’t pretty, but it was a bounce back win after the Dothan series split.  Chatt Valley played host to West Georgia Tech and the Techsters gave CV all they wanted for 9 innings.  However, a 3 run 8th inning sparked a come from behind win to get the Pirates back on track.Garrett Deloney got the start for the Pirates and was outstanding in his 6 inning effort.  After surrendering 2 first inning runs, Deloney settled in and didn’t allow a Knight to reach second base the rest of the way.  On the day, Deloney scattered 5 hits, only 2 after the 1st, while striking out 4.

Down 2-0, the Pirates tied the game in the 4th, when Carson Hughes reached on a walk and Caleb Lynn reached on an error to start the frame.  An RBI single by Tanner Davis and a sac fly by Kurt Ornowski knotted things up at 2 apiece.

With Deloney finishing his work through 6 complete innings, Cody Harrison came on in relief in the 7th and he was on the wrong end of 2 errors and a passed ball to give the Knights a 3-2 lead.

Down by a run in the 8th, AJ Willoughby lead off with a double and after Carson Hughes moved him to third on a groundout, Will Campbell smashed a liner through a drawn in infield to tie the game at 3.  Not done yet, Lynn reached on a walk, Davis on an error to load the bases.  Nolan Greckel drew a bases loaded walk and Tim Kennedy was hit by a pitch to push 2 more runs across to give the Pirates a 5-3 lead.

Trent Simpson came on in the 9th to shut the door and pick up the save, while striking out a batter.

The Pirates would go back into conference play next in a key series against Alabama Southern.
