After a Home Sweep of Wallace-Dothan, Pirates Drop 2 on the Road to Split Series

In a huge matchup of the top 2 teams in the league at the time, things got off to a great start for the Pirates, as they collected a huge home sweep against the Govs of Dothan.  Unfortunately, the tables were turned the next day, as Wallace pulled the sweep on Chatt Valley to even the series. In Game 1, the Pirates send Chase Burks to the mound, and he continued his dominance of opposing hitters, as the offense gave him an early 5-0 lead after 3 innings.

Trent Simpson and Jay Meuse singled to lead of the second inning, while AJ Willoughby and Carson Hughes plated those runs to put CV on top 2-0.  Right back at them in the 3rd, Brandon Hill drew a leadoff walk, followed by a singles by Will Campbell and JT Thomas to push the lead to 3-0.  The big blow came from Meuse, as he delivered a 2 run single to give Burks a comfortable 5-0 lead.

However, the Govs scratched for 3 in the top of 4 on a HBP, a double, single and an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 5-3.  Burks shut down the Wallace offense from there, allowing only a walk and a single the rest of the way, en route to a complete game win, as Hill added a solo homer in the 4th to give Burks an insurance run, as the Pirates held on for a 6-3 win.

Game 2 was a complete dominating effort by Chase Adkins, as he absolutely handcuffed the Dothan offense in his own CG effort.  Allowing only 5 hits on the day, Adkins only permitted one base runner to reach third base all day.  Additionally, Adkins fanned 11 hitters en route to being named the ACCC Pitcher of the Week.

In a scoreless game, the Pirates finally broke through in the 3rd, as Jaylen Smith walked to open the frame and Carson Hughes followed him with a single.  Nolan Greckel singled in Smith and Brandon Hill followed with an RBI double to give Adkins all the runs he would need for a 2-0 lead.

While Chase was dealing, the offense gave him one more run in the 6th, as Will Campbell clubbed a solo homer to push the final score to 3-0 to give the Pirates a home sweep and 2-0 series lead.

Game 3 sent Jordan Lee to the mound and he found himself on the wrong end of bad luck and bad defense, as an error filled fourth inning led to 4 unearned runs that was ultimately the Pirates undoing.

CVCC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st on a Brandon Hill RBI single.  With JLee dealing, Dothan tied the game on a solo homer in the 3rd.  However, Chatt Valley answered right back on an AJ Willoughby single and an MJ Rookard RBI single to take a temporary 2-1 lead.

However, the dreaded 4th inning was the undoing, with 2 errors being the Pirates undoing.  Down 5-2, CVCC loaded the bases in the 5th with 1 out, but was unable to push anything across and unfortunately, the Pirates were on the wrong end of a 5-2 game.

Game 4 was simply of running into a juggernaut of a pitcher in Wallace ace, Hunter Hood.  He shut the Pirate offense down from the get go in a 5-0 shutout win.  Although CVCC scattered 7 base runners, there was never really a threat to score.

The Govs popped 1 on starter Christian Vann in the second with a 2 out RBI single and added 2 more in the 4th, as Dothan collected 3 hits in the inning to push the lead to 3-0.

Logan Haner came in relief and was solid, but Dothan scratched for the final 2 runs in the 6th to push the final to 5-0.

The series split left CVCC in first place in the league, but dropped their record to 6-2.
