In a last minute schedule change, the Pirates headed to Faulkner University on Wednesday to take on the freshman/sophomore team of the Eagles. The JV game gave the Pirates the opportunity to play and pitch a plethora of people as they head into the weekend homecoming game versus ABAC.
Jordan Lee got the start and tossed the first 3 innings, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 3 to increase his league leading strikeout total to 17. After an allowing an unearned run in the first, the Pirate offense went to work to erase an early 1-0 deficit.
Putting 6 runs on the board, the Pirates did were aided by seven free passes, an error, and a Will Campbell double.
Up 6-1, it was a staff day on the mound, as six Pirate hurlers got an inning a piece the rest of the way. Chase Adkins was his usual self in the 4th, while Stew Tyler made tremendous strides, punching out a batter in the 5th.
Jelani Clarington continued to impress, striking out the side in the 6th, with Brandon Hill making his college pitching debut and making quick work of the Eagles in 1-2-3 fashion. Cody Harrison followed Clarington’s suit and punched out the side, while Trent Simpson finished things off in the 9th.
The offense went to work again in the 4th on a pair of doubles by Campbell and Carson Hughes, along with a Jayson Cook RBI single. MJ Rookard continued his hot hitting, as he hammered another homerun in as many games to increase the lead to 10-3. Caleb Lynn and Nick Poskey joined the hit parade to push the lead and final to 12-4.
The Pirates will play host to Abraham Baldwin on Saturday for a 2:00 eastern game.
