Pirates Have Four Division 1 Signees in Early Period

It was another banner day for the Chattahoochee Valley Baseball Program, as the Pirates had four student-athletes sign baseball scholarships with Division I institutions.

With 29 Division I signees since the 2013 season alone, the total ran to 33, as RHP Chase Adkins (University of Georgia), RHP Logan Haner (Western Kentucky University), RHP Jordan Lee (Georgia State University), and Catcher J.T. Thomas (Mercer University) were the first four of the 2016 class to ink their letters of intent.

L to R:  Jordan Lee, Logan Haner, JT Thomas, Chase Adkins

Chase Adkins is a transfer from Coastal Carolina University and a graduate of Hillgrove High School.  After serving as a conference starter as a freshman, Adkins transferred to CVCC after a season ending shoulder injury prematurely cut his 2015 short.  Adkins is expected to anchor the top of the rotation for the Pirates in 2016.  The power armed Adkins will most assuredly be a high round draft pick in the 2016 MLB draft.

Logan Haner is a graduate of Mt. Paran High School and after Tommy John surgery in 2014, was one of the saviors of the Pirate pitching staff down the 2015 stretch run to the JUCO World Series as injuries decimated the staff.  Serving as a reliever for most of the year, Haner single handedly pitched the Pirates to the Region 22 championship game with a 7 hit, complete game shutout in the conference semi finals.  On the year, Haner was 3-1 with a 2.86 ERA, while striking out 33 batters in 34 innings against only 6 walks.

Jordan Lee is a graduate of Peachtree Ridge High School and was another one of the star freshman pitchers for the Pirates during the 2015 campaign.  As one of the top pitchers in the ACCC in terms of wins and ERA, Lee went 7-2 with a 2.40 ERA, as he was a mainstay in the conference rotation all season long.  However, his finest moment may have been coming out of the bullpen in the second round of the ACCC tourney to completely dominate over 7 full innings to propel the Pirates to an eventual World Series berth.

JT Thomas is a graduate of Etowah High School and has developed into arguably the best catcher to wear a Pirate uniform under Coach Adam Thomas.  A defensive stalwart, Thomas is an absolute workhorse behind the dish and with a cannon for a right arm, virtually eliminates the running game entirely.  With a handful of SEC and ACC offers, Thomas elected to sign with Mercer.  As a freshman, Thomas helped lead a potent offense to Grand Junction as he hit .317 with 4 doubles and 17 RBI’s.

Coach Adam Thomas looks on as Chase Adkins, JT Thomas, Logan Haner and Jordan Lee all sign their Letters of Intent.
