Athletics at Chattahoochee Valley Community College have long been known for their winning prowess on the baseball and softball diamond, as well as on the hardwood floor of men’s and women’s basketball. However, CVCC’s work ethic and success does not end on the field or on the court, as the Pirate athletic department is a juggernaut in the world of academia, as well.
At the conclusion of the fall 2013 semester, Chattahoochee Valley athletics, once again, posted a 3.00 overall GPA as a department. This marks the fifth consecutive year, as well as seven of the past eight years, that the Pirate athletic department has surpassed this benchmark at the conclusion of the fall semester. The overall GPA is composed of every completed course of each athlete in each sport during their tenure on a CVCC athletic team.
Furthermore, seventeen Chattahoochee Valley student-athletes garnered Dean’s or President’s List honors this semester by earning a 3.50 GPA or higher, with four of those student athletes achieving a perfect 4.00 fall semester GPA. Finally, the Pirate baseball team eclipsed the 3.00 mark for the thirteenth consecutive year and has been named an NJCAA All-Academic Team for four consecutive seasons (2010-2013), while earning the award six times overall (also in 2007 and 2008).
Pirate athletic director, Adam Thomas, had this to say, “I cannot express how proud I am of our student-athletes and their respective coaches. These young men and women have displayed the pride and discipline that truly comprise the word ‘student-athlete.’ It is so refreshing to see college athletes representing their institution in this manner; they are clearly paving their futures for success on the fields and courts of life.”
