Pirates Have 5 Division 1 Signees During Early Signing Period

The NCAA November early signing period was a good one for the Pirates of Chattahoochee Valley’s baseball team, as Coach Thomas’s team 5 players ink letters of intent with Division 1 institutions.

L to R: Chris Brown, Colt Ramsey, Dalton Rentz, Coach Adam Thomas, Jared Martin, Kevin Moore

HP Chris Brown, a Douglasville, Georgia native, will join Ramsey in signing with Georgia Southern University.  Brown was one of the most dominant relievers in the Central Division in 2013, appearing in 11 games and posting a 2-0 record with 3 saves.  Brown will take over the vacated closing role left by 14th round draft pick, Nick Jones.

C Jared Martin, a Dunwoody, Georgia native, has signed with the University of South Carolina.  An All Central Division performer as a freshman, Martin hit .337 with 16 doubles, 3 homers and 45 RBI’s, while fielding .995 and throwing out 9 of 16 potential base stealers.

RHP Kevin Moore, also a Mobile native, has signed with the University of South Alabama.  As a freshman, Kevin led the team in strikeouts per inning while going 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 24 innings while serving as both a starter and reliever in 2013.  Kevin looks to be one of the top guys in the 2014 rotation.

RHP Colt Ramsey, a Lawrenceville, Georgia product, has signed with Georgia Southern University.  During his freshman campaign Ramsey was 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA with 26 strikeouts against only 5 walks in 21 innings of work as one of the Pirate’s top relievers.  Ramsey will transition to conference starter in 2014.

RHP Dalton Rentz, a Mobile, Alabama native, has signed with Auburn University.  The Pirate ace was 10-1 with a 2.44 ERA with 67 strikeouts in 81 innings as a freshman, earning him All Region honors in 2013.  Rentz is looking for another stellar sophomore season and may become one of the all-time greats to toe the rubber at Howard Lake Field.
