The fall version of the Chatt Valley Pirates continued to roll on Friday at the annual Central Alabama Fall Classic, beating the defending national champions, 3-1 and walking off to at 4-3 win versus Jeff Davis in the nightcap.
The pitching was dominant against the Trojans in Game 1, as Pirate ace, Dalton Rentz, tossed 3 shutout innings, surrendering only one hit, whil punching out 5 hitters. Kevin Moore was just as dominant in his 2 innings of no hit baseball, collecting 4 strikeouts of his own.
After swapping zeroes for the first 4 innings, the Pirates struck first on a Drew Lingo RBI groundout to put the Pirates up 1-0 in the 5th. The Pirate offense went right back to work in the 6th scoring 2 more runs on a Cam Sperry single, plating Jeff Ronpirin and Jared Martin, who both had hits in the inning..
Sophomore Payne Kosobucki came on in the 6th inning to collect a 2 inning save, surrendering a single run in another dominant effort to preserve a 3-1 Pirate win.
Game 2 saw the Pirates fall behind early on a couple of defensive miscues, but starter Chris Brown was impressive nonetheless in his 3 innings of work, allowing only 2 hits and punching out 4 Warhawk hitters.
The Pirates got on the board in the second, down 1-0 on a James Cunningham bases loaded walk.
Down 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Trip Adams and Cunningham both drove in runs to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead to reliever Matt Evenson.
Evenson was magnificent in his outing with only a single blemish that cost the Pirates the lead on a solo homer to the Jeff Davis three hitter to knot the game at 3 apiece.
Meanwhile, Colt Ramsey came on and completely shut the door on the Warhawks to give the Pirates a chance in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Third baseman, Grayson Ivey, led off the inning with a shot to the right center field gap, as two Warhawk defenders gave chase, they ran into each other and the ball shot to the wall, all the while, Ivey rounded the bases for a walk-off inside the park homerun to give the PIrates a 4-3 win.
Chatt Valley will travel to Waleska, Georgia on Thursday, September 19th to face Rienhardt University for a 3:00 double header.
