After a transition of high school shortstop/starting pitcher to centerfielder, back to shortstop, and then finally settling in as one of the top relief pitchers in the ACCC, sophomore Nate Morris made his commitment and will sign a baseball scholarship to pitch for the Golden Knights of the University of Central Florida next season.
Morris, a graduate of St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Alabama spent the 2012 season at Pensacola State College as a centerfielder. After spending most of the fall as a two way player at shortstop, Morris made the transition to pitcher only and the move has paid great dividends. His fastball has made a big jump and sits regularly in the low 90’s to complement an 80-84 mph slider.
As one of the Pirates’ as well as the ACCC’s top relievers in 2012, Nate is second on the team in games pitched with 12, and has posted a 2-0 record with 2 saves while striking out 23 batters in 18 innings, while surrendering only 6 walks. Additionally, Morris has held his opposing hitters to a miniscule .149 batting average.
