The Pirate Baseball Team returned to action yesterday after a 4 day break to sweep a non-conference doubleheader against Point University, 16-2 and 10-0.
After starter Ben Taylor surrender a run in the top of the first inning the Pirate offense answered back in a big way, hammering out 10 runs in the bottom of the frame. Nick Jones led the offense, hitting for the first cycle for Chatt Valley since 2002, when second baseman Jared Jenkins pulled the trick against Gadsden State Community College. Jones drove in 6 runs in the performance, and completed the feat in the most difficult way, hitting a triple in his final at-bat. Jared Martin was a homer shy of the cycle as well, and he had 4 RBI’s in the game.
In game two, the Pirate offense continued to feast on Point pitching as Jared Martin and Nick Jones again led the attack by hitting back to back home runs in the first inning. The Pirates ended up plating 10 runners in total, and 6 different pitchers combined to shutout the Skyhawks. The wins push the Pirates’ record to 34-5 on the season as they head into an ACCC series at home against Central Alabama on Thursday at Golden Park at 2:00 pm eastern.
