The Chattahoochee Valley Community College baseball team completed 2 recruiting classes last week, as Coach Thomas signed Matt Evenson, the final player for his 2012-13 incoming freshman class, while Kendell Brinson, CVCC’s sophomore first baseman/designated hitter, the final member of the 17 member outgoing sophomore class to sign a baseball scholarship, inked his deal with Point University in West Point, Georgia.
Matt Evenson is a 6’1 180 lb. right handed pitcher from Phenix City’s Central High School. The athletic pitcher has been clocked as high as 95 mph and routinely sits in the low 90’s with a very good slider. An unquestionable future pro prospect, Evenson struck out more than 70 batters in 50+ innings in 2012 and will join a freshman heavy pitching staff to carry the load for the Pirates in 2012.
Kendell Brinson, a Smiths Station HS graduate and transfer from East Georgia College, hit .300 with 8 doubles, a homer, and 21 RBI’s on the year while splitting time between first base and DH. Brinson has signed with Point University, formerly Atlanta Christian College, which is relocating to West Point, Georgia. Brinson was instrumental in the Pirates late March run to clinch second place in the ACCC Central Division race.
