After a tough walk off loss to Georgia Perimeter on Tuesday, the Pirates of Chatt Valley were looking for some home magic to right the ship. Unfortunately, it never came, as the Pirates dropped another game by a final of 5-2. Stymied all day by Darton starter Matt Aldrich, Chatt Valley never really threatened offensively until the 9th off of the Cavalier bullpen. CVCC starter, Mike O’Neal, began to look like his old self in the complete game loss, in which he allowed 4 earned runs on 7 Darton hits, while punching out 5 Cavs in his 9 innings of work. Darton got on the board in each of the first 2 innings by playing some old school, “get ’em on, get ’em over, and get ’em in” baseball. The score remained 2-0 until the 6th when a hit by pitch and a double by the Darton offense proceeded a 2 out single to plate 2 more runs for the Cavs. An unearned run in the 8th by Darton on 3 CV infield errors put the Pirates in a tough 5-0 hole entering the final 2 frames. A quiet 8th opened the door for some offense in the bottom half of the 9th. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late, as the Pirates scratched for 2 runs and a deep Nick Jones fly ball narrowly missed bringing the Pirates within in a single run. The Pirates drop to 4-6 on the season and host West Georgia Tech Saturday, February 11th for a 2:00 pm eastern game.
