6TH IN THE NATION, THE PIRATES ARE PERFECT AT HOME - Phenix City, AL
On Monday, April 19, 2010, the Chattahoochee Valley Baseball Team retired
former Pirate and current Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson's #18 jersey
while accepting an amazing gift of $200,000 from the all star hurler.
On Tuesday, the 6th ranked Pirates showed their gratitude on the field
by completing an improbable feat, defeating the Andrew College Fighting
Tigers 6-4 to finish their home schedule with a perfect record of 22-0.
The Pirates are traditionally very difficult to beat at Howard Lake Field,
but this season marks the first time in school history that a Chatt Valley
baseball team has ever run the table at the Lake. Lets take a look back
at some of the more memorable victories the Pirates claimed during this
amazing run:
* 1/30/10 - The Pirates open the season by pounding out 18 runs and
allowing just 1 against Andrew College including 3 homers and 10 RBI's
by Tyler Googe.
* 2/7/10 - Tom Richardson smashes a homer and collects 4 RBI's and Keith
Tidwell drives in the game winning run to defeat Georgia Perimeter 6-5
in an epic 11 inning affair.
* 2/19/10 - Trailing 9-6 in the bottom of the ninth, the Pirates mount
a 4 run rally against Highlander closer Casey Shiver to take a 10-9 victory
against GJCAA foe Gordon College.
* 3/19-3/20/10 - The Pirates complete a conference sweep over Alabama
Southern to start the ACCC schedule.
* 3/26-3/27/10 - Riding the arms of Derek Varnadore, Jeff Shields, and
Bronson Gagner, the Pirates sweep bitter rivals Southern Union in an ACCC
conference series. On the weekend, the Pirates outscore the Bison 42-13.
* 3/30/10 - Chatt Valley trails Middle Georgia 4-1 after 1, 6-4 after
2, and 14-8 after 7 innings before assaulting the Warrior's pitching staff
for 7 (4 in the bottom of the 9th) runs over the last 3 innings to claim
a dramatic 15-14 win.
* 4/15-4/17/10 - 37 hits and 35 runs later the Pirates earn their 6th
conference sweep of the season by defeating Enterprise-Ozark 13-3, 6-2,
and 12-1.
* 4/20/10 - The Dirty Pirates finish at home against the team they opened
with at home, using a pair of mammoth home runs by Tom Richardson and
Matt Black to down visiting Andrew College 6-4.
For the year, CV's boys outscored opponents 218-85 at Howard Lake, averaging
10 runs per game while allowing fewer than 4. Their perfect record included
3 shutouts, 4 ACCC conference sweeps, 10 victories over GJCAA opponents,
8 games shortened by the 10 run mercy rule, 6 doubleheader sweeps, and
1 game suspended by darkness that resumed only to last a mere 8 minutes
before the Pirates plated the final and winning run. With this accomplishment,
the 2010 Pirates have carved a special place in Chatt Valley history and
set a bar for all CV teams that follow to try to reach.
The 22 wins at home pad an overall 36-4 record and an ACCC tally of 20-1
for the Pirate squad who prepare for an ACCC series this weekend at Wallace
State in Dothan, AL. Only 7 games remain as the Pirates make their stretch
run toward the ACCC conference tourney and the close of this historic
season.
